On a suggestion given by the Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, the Governor evolved two programs as follows:
The idea behind this program is to bring about equality among the students of Government schools and students of private schools, because there is a feeling of inequality in their status. Under this program, students from Government schools and private schools are invited and they are made to sit in pairs (one from Government school and another from private school). They are asked to communicate with each other through post cards and through telephone, once in a month. They will write diaries and, once in every month, the diaries will be shared in the presence of school teachers. The children are advised to maintain their friendship throughout their life and meet once in 15 days at home or gardens and exchange pleasantries. Friendship Kits containing a diary, postcard with Raj Bhavan photo, envelopes, pen, pencil and postage stamps will be given to the students.
The first programme was held at Raj Bhavan in co-ordination with the Directorate of Education to which 20 students (10 girls and 10 boys) from a Government High School having more than 20% Scheduled Tribe students, and 20 students (10 girls and 10 boys) from a Private School, were brought and made to sit in pairs. They took friendship oath. The Hon’ble Governor gave them Sacchi Dosti kits containing a diary, post card having Raj Bhavan photo, envelopes, pen, pencil and postage stamps. They were asked to communicate with each other through post cards and write diaries and share them once in every month in the presence of school teachers. The Governor advised them to maintain friendship throughout life and that they should meet once in 15 days at home or gardens and exchange pleasantries. The program was appreciated and well-published in the local newspapers.
